The HHSC Oahu Region has a long history of collaboration with other community organizations in its efforts to improve the quality of life for its residents, participants, patients and their families and caregivers. It has done this primarily in two ways: (1) Establishing relationships with outside organizations to improve clinical services or to provide increased convenience and access to other needed services; and (2) Providing a long-term care training practicum for health care professionals. The HHSC Oahu Region’s current list of partnerships, affiliations and relationships, include:

Academic Training Affiliations:

  • John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) – Geriatric and Geriatric Psychiatry Programs
  • University of Hawaii Manoa School of Nursing (Nursing & Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners (APRN))
  • University of Hawaii – Kapiolani Community College (Nursing, Occupational Therapy)
  • Chaminade University Nursing Program
  • Various mainland colleges thru Hawaii Health Care Systems Agreements (Dietitian, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy)

Community Programs:

  • Farrington Health Academy (with the Dept. of Education’s Health Careers Pathway Program)
  • Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) Satellite Office thru the Honolulu City and County Elder Affairs Division
  • The American Society of Interior Designers, Inc. – creation of family and inpatient day rooms
  • State of Hawaii Preventive Falls Program – Tai Chi Classes; Tai Chi training certifications
  • Hawaii State Center for Nursing – Oahu Region as lead organization for Long Term Care Nursing
